A vibrant, evocative set of songs celebrating the City of London through its sounds, both past and present. It is hugely influenced by Peter Ackroyd’s ‘London: The Biography’, which I used as a starting point for many texts and which were then expanded upon; I was also inspired to be a flâneur in the City in order to collect sounds!
I reduced, re-arranged and combined poems and prose in each movement, from writers including Wordsworth, Dryden, Thomas Dekker, Shelley and traditional rhymes and calls.
A Still Roar was commissioned by City Chorus for their 90th anniversary at premiered at St Sepulchre Without Newgate, London, on July 8th, 2011.
