No Place Like

No Place Like was commissioned by BBC Ten Pieces to celebrate the sounds of young people's homes and home towns. I sent questions to primary schools around the UK, asking them to collect sounds from home, and got hundreds of responses back! I wrote a long poem that I then cut down into lyrics to set. It's a fun, funky piece with body percussion and noisy vocal layers!

As well as the Children's Chorus and SATB Youth Chorus version, there's a version for primary/junior schools, piano and optional percussion. There are also lots of resources and lesson plans to learn about the piece and make your own version inspired by it.

No Place Like was premiered by the Ten Pieces Choir at the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall, London in July 2017 and performed there again in July 2018.
